Montana Pest Information Network
Agricultural producers face numerous challenges related to pest control such as finding current information. The Montana Pest Information Network is a web-based mechanism established to expedite the flow of pest control information and to promote multistate and multi-agency collaboration. Commodity-specific pesticide use surveys, crop profiles, and pest management strategic plans will aid in the identification of pest management priorities at the local level and transfer management startegies from regional and national sources back to the local level.
The Montana Pest Information Network requires collaboratation with the principal investigators of the Pacific Northwest Work Group (Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Utah) to develop intra/interstate crop profiles and pest management strategic plans, rank and prioritize emerging issues, and develop regional publications. Both the Montana Pest Information Network and the Pacific Northwest Work Group support the Western Region Pest Management Center at the University of California - Davis.
The objectives of the MPIN focuses on the following:
1. Establish and maintain the IPM Contact Network of people who are knowledgeable about common pest management issues in surrounding states.
2. Maintain and expand the current Montana Pest Information Network webpage to include information from, and links to surrounding states with common cropping systems. 3. Management of existing crop profiles and pest management strategies that includes providing a “home” to pest management articles.
4. Collaborate with surrounding states to identify common cropping systems.
